Exceptional Color Reproduction

Because we have been around the printing process almost since Gutenberg invented movable type, our eyes seem to instantly pick up on the fidelity and quality of a printed piece. We are pretty fanatical about color reproduction — from duotones to process printing. We demand great printing from our vendors. Anything else isn't worth the effort.

We're pretty savvy about getting the best from conventional printing — we also appreciate the improved technologies of Hexachrome printing and FM screening. If the best of the best in color reproduction is the goal, we encourage our clients to consider these upgrades, when appropriate.

Pantone Hexachrome Hexachrome Printing
In addition to excellent conventional process printing, we can produce your project using the Hexachrome printing process. By using a special ink set, which is purer than the CMYK ink set used conventionally, a considerably wider range of color is possible. The set consists of enhanced versions of the usual colors of yellow, magenta and cyan and black, along with vivid orange and green. In addition to reproducing more brilliant continuous-tone images, Hexachrome is capable of simulating over 90% of the solid PMS Colors.

FM Screening
Another option for reproducing high-quality, intricate images is FM screening or stochastic printing. This process can reproduce images with greater detail and smoothness than conventional printing but still uses a four-color ink set (CMYK.) The process uses random placement of a large number of small uniform dots of various sizes. This differs from conventional printing, which involves carefully arranged rows of larger and smaller dots to create tonality. The advantages of FM screening are smoother flesh tones and mid-tones, greater shadow detail, and sharper image detail.
